Long-term melatonin treatment attenuates body weight gain with aging in female mice

چکیده
Women usually experience body weight gain with aging, which can put them at risk for many chronic diseases. Previous studies indicated that melatonin treatment attenuates and abdominal fat deposition in several male animals. However, it is unclear whether affects female animals the same way. This study investigated long-term attenuate aging and, if does, what mechanism is. Ten-week-old ICR mice were given melatonin-containing water (100 μg/mL) or only until 43 weeks. Melatonin significantly attenuated 23 weeks (control; 57.2 ± 2.0 g vs melatonin; 44.4 3.1 g), 33 65.4 2.6 52.2 4.2 g) 66.1 3.2 54.4 2.5 without decreasing amount of food intake. Micro-CT analyses showed decreased visceral s.c. fat. These results suggested by inhibiting deposition. Metabolome analysis liver revealed induced a drastic change metabolome downregulation 149 metabolites, including metabolites glucose amino acids. Citrate, serves as source de novo lipogenesis, was one downregulated metabolites. show induces changes metabolism mice.

Short-term variability in body weight predicts long-term weight gain.
BACKGROUND Body weight in lower animals and humans is highly stable despite a very large flux in energy intake and expenditure over time. Conversely, the existence of higher-than-average variability in weight may indicate a disruption in the mechanisms responsible for homeostatic weight regulation. OBJECTIVE In a sample chosen for weight-gain proneness, we evaluated whether weight variability...
متن کاملCholine Deficiency Attenuates Body Weight Gain and Improves Glucose Tolerance in ob/ob Mice
Previous studies demonstrated that choline supply is directly linked to high-fat-diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance in mice. The aim of this study was to evaluate if choline supply could also modulate obesity and insulin resistance caused by a genetic defect. Eight-week-old male ob/ob mice were fed for two months with either choline-deficient or choline-supplemented diet. Tissue weight...
متن کاملLong-Term Treatment with an Herbal Formula MCC Reduces the Weight Gain in High Fat Diet-Induced Obese Mice
Obesity is a risk factor for metabolic disorders, with its prevalence being increased in the world over the past several decades. Therapeutical interventions for obesity are thus urgently needed. In the present study, we investigated the effect of long-term treatment (0.51 and 5.1 g/kg/day, 5 days per week for a total of 40 doses) with an herbal formula MCC [which comprises the fruit of Momordi...
متن کاملHigh-calcium diet with whey protein attenuates body-weight gain in high-fat-fed C57Bl/6J mice.
An inverse relationship between Ca intake and BMI has been found in several studies. It has been suggested that Ca affects adipocyte metabolism via suppressing 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol (1,25(OH)2-D3) and decreases fat absorption. We studied the effect of Ca and milk proteins (whey and casein) on body weight in C57Bl/6J mice. Male mice, age 9 weeks, were divided into three groups (ten mice ...
متن کاملLong-Term Outcomes after Phthalate Exposure: Food Intake, Weight Gain, Fat Storage, and Fertility in Mice
The neuronal development of fetuses and infants is exquisitely sensitive to disruption by various environmental factors. Yet few chemicals in widespread use have been thoroughly tested for developmental neuro toxicity. Most such testing relies on animal studies, a laborious and costly process that is not always a good predictor of human health outcomes. A team of researchers now describes a fas...
